'Weatherology' is the one they both say is the 'best'. I think the best they will do is 'read' the weather to you. If AA is like CarPlay in this respect, I don't see getting 'live' or animated radar thru AA or CarPlay anytime soon. You can zoom in and out with it, but it is not really any good zoomed in too far. but when you're in close to inclement weather the 5 minute update makes it amusing. I've had it for about 4 or 5 years, and its been helpful on long road trips to see where storms are at and prepare to get wet or avoid them. It is actually an 'overlay' that is over your Nav screen. It gives a static radar picture that takes about 10 minutes to initially show up after turning the ignition on, then the picture/overlay updates every 5 minutes. Even the 'wireless' adapters for iPhones just make the initial 'handshake' via bluetooth, then switches to 'wifi' to communicate with the wireless module & for data transfer (like the CPLAY2air module), and I believe the AA modules work the same way.Īs far as 'live radar', again with CarPlay and I don't know if AA is the same, ' To combat distracted driving, Apple has prohibited the use of weather radars in the CarPlay system.'
